If you’re able to conjure images of Petra in your mind, chances are you see the monument known as the Treasury. The Treasury is not a treasury at all but the mausoleum of a 1st-century king. As the first sight most visitors have of Petra, it is certainly a treasure. It’s hard to imagine a grander entrance and would be worth a visit all on its own.
The Treasury is, however, only the beginning of a sprawling site filled with equally wonderous sights.
