Two of our published programs (Royal Touch of Morocco and Ultimate Morocco) include an overnight in the legendary Sahara dunes. Our Berber-style camps offer optimum comfort, a cozy embrace among the shifting mountains of sand. Spacious, private sleeping tents have warm, comfortable beds and en suite toilet, sink and shower. Multi-course meals are prepared fresh on-site and served in a separate dining tent.
The camp site is laid with carpets on the sand and lit by torches. Fire pits blaze and local, Berber entertainers sing and dance and beat their rhythms into the vast night.
Overhead, the starry dazzle is mesmerizing.
Camels are available for riding into the dunes at sunset or sunrise.
In our published programs that include a night in the Sahara, we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains heading south from Fez to Erfoud. In Erfoud, we pick up 4X4 vehicles and head to the great dunes of Erg Chebbi via Merzouga. Erg Chebbi is a sea of mountainous, wind-shaped dunes up to 500 feet high.
