Visit the fishing village of Taqa, with its imposing fort, the ancient trading center of Sumhuram, and more on this private shore excursion from Salalah port.

This private Oman shore excursion tour is guaranteed to operate with a minimum of 2 passengers.

You will be met at the port by your private guide to begin your tour. Drive a scenic, palm-lined road to the fishing village of Taqa, an old town with an interesting castle surrounded by watchtowers and Taqa stone houses. Incense and horses were once exported from the city’s harbor, guarded by the Qasbar Fort on the cliff above. Visit the Taqa Castle, a fine example of 19th-century defensive architecture. Stop to enjoy the stunning hilltop view and then drive on to Sumhuram.

On the cliff above Khawr Rawri, the Dhofar region’s largest bay, you will find the ruins of the fortress and the palace of Sumhuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and possibly the home of the Queen of Sheba.

The Sumhuram port was an important center for the trade of frankincense, myrrh and slaves from the 1st to the 7th century.

A picturesque drive then leads to Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar and the beginning of the Frankincense Trail. Stroll through the streets lined with old Omani mud houses and visit the twin-domed tomb of Bin Ali, a classic example of medieval architecture.

On the way back to Salalah, stop to explore the natural spring of Ayn Razat, beautifully laid out amidst the tranquil lush mountains.

Continue on to the Salalah port to rejoin your cruise.
