Syros is a member of the Cycladic group of Greek Islands, although not as touristy as some of its neighbors (think Mykonos, Santorini, Paros).
The capital city of Syros, Ermoupolis (Queen of the Cyclades), is also the capital of the Cyclades. Ermoupolis was settled in the 1820s by Greek refugees fleeing Ottoman persecution. The refugees included many wealthy industrialists and merchants who helped establish a vibrant city full of beautiful architecture, museums and cultural venues.
Syros island is easy to access by air from Athens and by ferry from Athens, Mykonos and several other islands.
