You will be picked up from your hotel in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem (time to be advised) and transferred to either the Allenby or Sheikh Hussein border crossing.
After border crossing procedures, drive to Jerash - city of the Decapolis, located about 45km north of Amman in the fertile heights of the Gilad. Visit the ancient Roman city with colonnaded streets, the baths, the hill-top temple, etc. Then drive to Amman for a city tour of the Jordanian capital. Overnight in Amman.

After an early breakfast, leave the hotel and travel south on the road to Wadi Musa for your Petra tour. Continue on horseback to the siq (canyon), and then on foot to Petra. Known as "Sela Edom" or red rock city, Petra was the capital of the Nabateans from the 3rd century BCE to the 2nd century CE. Petra's most elegant monument, El Khazneh (The Treasury) comes dramatically into view as you emerge from the siq. Beyond The Treasury an entire city is carved into the canyon walls. Other outstanding structures include The Monastery and Urn Tomb. Wander through the field of tombs and obelisks to Al Madhbah (The Altar). From this point you can view the whole of the rock city.
Return to Wadi Musa and your hotel for overnight.

|
Drive to Madaba to see the ancient mosaic map of the holy land and ruins of historical sites. Continue with a short drive to Mount Nebo, traditionally believed to be the site from which Moses viewed the Promised Land. Enjoy the sweeping view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea and visit the remains of a Byzantine church. Then drive to the border and on to Jerusalem or Tel Aviv.

Travel Tips
Most of the year, except for the winter months of December through March, is hot and dry.
The winter months can be drizzly, damp and cool; snowing occasionally in Amman and the
mountains. Even the summer evenings may be cool. Aqaba on the Red Sea is usually a few
degrees warmer and sunny throughout the year.
The best time to visit is mid-March to mid-May and mid-September through October.
A valid passport and visa are required for Americans to enter Jordan. Visas can be obtained upon entry unless crossing into Jordan from Israel at the Allenby Bridge border crossing, in which case you must get your visa in advance. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival into Jordan.
Yellow fever certificate is required if you are arriving from an infected area.
Contact health authorities for the latest information.
The language of Jordan is Arabic. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
Conservative dress is recommended. It is best for both men and women to keep shoulders and legs fairly well covered. Loose, flowing garments in natural fibers (cotton, linen) are ideal for the heat. A sweater is advisable for the cool summer evenings or winter travel. Sun hat, sunglasses and plenty of fluids help to cope with the heat.
The currency of Jordan is the Dinar.
The electric current is 220 volts AC 50 cycle. The wall plugs are the round, two pronged European type; bring an adapter if necessary.
