| Around 1600BCE, one of the largest known volcanic eruptions in history obliterated much of the island of Thera (modern Santorini) and may also have wiped out the Minoan Civilization on Crete with the subsequent tidal wave. What remains of Santorini today is actually a volcanic caldera. Some believe Santorini was the location of the lost city of Atlantis. |
