Patmos, half day
(Tour is approximately 4 hours long.)
You will be met at the port in Patmos by your private guide to begin your tour. Leaving Skala harbor, take a 10-minute drive to the impressive village of Chora where the 11th-century Monastery of St. John is situated among gleaming white houses, making a startling contrast to its dark mass. Within the high, thick walls is a maze of pebbled courtyards, arcades and lovely, frescoed chapels.
Visit the museum to see a magnificent collection of jeweled chalices, crowns and crosses.
In addition, there are old writings dating back as far as 1073, icons and religious paintings, including an original El Greco.
Continue to the Grotto of St. John. A 17th-century monastery is built around the cave where St. John lived and wrote the Book of Revelation.
After this memorable tour, you will be transferred back to the port to rejoin your cruise.
