You will be picked up from your hotel in Tel Aviv at 7:00AM and transferred to the Sheikh Hussein Bridge, the northern Israel/Jordan border crossing, about a 2 hour drive.
After border crossing procedures, you will be met by your private Jordanian guide and driver. Drive to the holy city of Madaba, well known for its outstanding Byzantine mosaics. Visit St. George Cathedral and see the 6th century mosaic floor depicting the earliest surviving map of the holy land.
Next, drive to Mt. Nebo, the traditional burial site of Moses. Visit the ancient church overlooking the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley. The church houses magnificent 6th century mosaics.
Continue to Petra for overnight.

After an early breakfast, leave the hotel about 8:00AM with your guide and travel south on the road to Wadi Musa for your Petra tour. Continue on horseback to the Siq (canyon), and then on foot to Petra. Known as "Sela Edom" or red rock city, Petra was the capital of the Nabateans from the 3rd century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D. Petra's most elegant monument, El Khazneh (The Treasury) comes dramatically into view as you emerge from the Siq. Beyond The Treasury an entire city is carved into the canyon walls. Other outstanding structures include The Monastery and Urn Tomb. Wander through the field of tombs and obelisks to Al Madhbah (The Altar). From this point you can view the whole of the rock city.
Return to your hotel for overnight. |
|
Drive to Wadi Rum. Take a short ride into the awesome moon-like landscape by 4X4 vehicle. The film Lawrence of Arabia was shot here.
Continue to Amman for overnight.

Drive north to Jerash, city of the Decapolis. Located in the fertile heights of Gilead, Jerash is one of the best preserved Greco-Roman cities left to us. Stroll the stately colonnaded streets past the theater, the baths, the hill top temple and the triumphal arch. Continue to the northern border crossing and then on to Tel Aviv for drop-off.

Travel Tips
Most of the year, except for the winter months of December through March, is hot and dry.
The winter months can be drizzly, damp and cool; snowing occasionally in Amman and the
mountains. Even the summer evenings may be cool. Aqaba on the Red Sea is usually a few
degrees warmer and sunny throughout the year.
The best time to visit is mid-March to mid-May and mid-September through October.
A valid passport and visa are required for Americans to enter Jordan. Visas can be obtained upon entry unless crossing into Jordan from Israel at the Allenby Bridge border crossing, in which case you must get your visa in advance. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival into Jordan.
Yellow fever certificate is required if you are arriving from an infected area.
Contact health authorities for the latest information.
The language of Jordan is Arabic. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
Conservative dress is recommended. It is best for both men and women to keep shoulders and legs fairly well covered. Loose, flowing garments in natural fibers (cotton, linen) are ideal for the heat. A sweater is advisable for the cool summer evenings or winter travel. Sun hat, sunglasses and plenty of fluids help to cope with the heat.
The currency of Jordan is the Dinar.
The electric current is 220 volts AC 50 cycle. The wall plugs are the round, two pronged European type; bring an adapter if necessary.
