DAY 3 - NAFPLION
Depart in the morning for a 2 hour drive to the Nemea region. Visit the Skouras Winery, the most renowned winery in the whole country. The visit includes a tour and wine tasting. The Domaine Skouras wine portfolio includes a wide range of excellent wines made from native and international grape varieties. Continue to Nafplion city for lunch by the sea. (Cost not included in tour). In the afternoon a walking tour of the city includes a visit to Bourtzi (the Medieval fortress in the middle of the gulf of Nafplion), the folklore museum, and the Palamidi fortress on the top of the hill overlooking the city.
Overnight at your hotel.
DAY 4 - DIMITSANA
After breakfast, set out for Mantineia. Visit the Boutaris winery. Established in 1879 and having remained in the hands of the Boutari Family for five generations, the Boutari Company still belongs to a powerful European wine-making family. After a tour and wine tasting, we will continue to Vytina village on the slopes of Mt Menalon. This traditional mountain village produces some fine traditional products of the region such as cheese, hand made pasta, wine, and honey. Sample the local fare with a typical Greek lunch. (Cost not included in tour). After lunch, continue to near-by Dimitsana. This beautiful mountain village played an important role in the Greek Revolution against the Turks in 1821. Overnight at your hotel.
DAY 5 - OLYMPIA
After breakfast, visit the Dimitsana Hydroelectric museum. Then, drive to Olympia and visit the greatest archaeological site of Peloponnese and among the greatest in Greece. Olympia is known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in Classical times, comparable in importance to the Pythian Games held in Delphi. Both games were held every Olympiad (i.e. every four years). The Olympic Games date back possibly further than 776 BC. In 394 emperor Theodosius I, or possibly his grandson Theodosius II in 435, abolished them because they were reminiscent of paganism. In the afternoon, visit the renowned Merkouri Estate winery for a tour and tasting. The breathtakingly beautiful estate has been family-owned for nearly 150 years. Good taste is so pervasive at Mercouri that we are not the least surprised about the originality and universally high quality of their wines. Overnight at your hotel.
DAY 6 - KALAVRITA
After breakfast, set out for Patras. On the way, stop at the Inigos Winery at Lousika. The company deals only in quality bottle wines on a small scale. Continue to the cosmopolitan Kalavrita with vivid night life, especially during winter, and a ski paradise of the Peloponnese. Overnight at your hotel.
DAY 7 - ARACHOVA
After breakfast, visit the Mega Spilaion (Great Cave). Then, drive to Rio and leave the Peloponnese peninsula behind by crossing the impressive bridge to Antirio on the mainland. Continue towards Delphi, past many seafront towns and villages of the Etoloakarnania and Fokida districts. At Delphi, visit the famous archaeological site. Delphi is an ancient town of central Greece near Mount Parnassus. Dating to at least the seventh century B.C., it was the seat of a famous oracle of Apollo. Continue to the cosmopolitan Arachova (ski paradise of the mainland), on the slopes of Parnassus. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore this bustling city. Overnight at your hotel.
